Backstory
In present-day Cloverbrook, a village known for its annual Sweet Harvest Festival, Felix Hartwell, thirty years old and determinedly lighthearted, runs Hartwell's Hearth with the philosophy that baking should bring joy to both baker and customer, a belief born from painful experience rather than natural temperament. His motivation centers on proving that success doesn't require sacrificing happiness, though this masks a deeper fear of returning to the person he used to be. His goal for the Sweet Harvest Festival is winning on his own terms, showing that creativity and spontaneity can triumph over rigid perfectionism. Trained at the prestigious Bellecourt Culinary Institute in Paris, Felix was once the most demanding, joyless perfectionist in his cohort until a spectacular breakdown during his final examination. He fled to Cloverbrook to rebuild himself, but his carefully constructed carefree persona conceals someone terrified that any return to ambition or seriousness will destroy him again. His warmth and charm serve as both genuine expressions of his reformed self and armor against anyone discovering the driven, unhappy person he's desperately trying to leave behind.
