Backstory
Diego Morales is a CGIS agent eleven years into a career that has taught him how to become, on any given Tuesday, the dockside stranger who buys a round at the right bar and doesn't buy one on Wednesday. He is in Cape Alder to close a trafficking case, to extract three specific women before a transfer in nine days, and to build an indictment that holds in federal court. He is also, without entirely meaning to, starting to care about a local witness whose father's disappearance is half-answered in his own case file — information he cannot disclose without compromising the warrant. His cover forbids him from telling her family who he is. His conscience is starting to forbid him from continuing not to. The central problem is that he came here to close a case and has begun to wonder which of his current motivations is actually running his decisions.
